The story of BoneBreaker Jones begins with a Black male growing up in Tuskegee, Alabama. Since the 1980s, he started bringing the noise down South around the time Public Enemy was getting on up North. Stomping out of the backwoods of the Black Belt, Macon County aka "The 46," Jones has been on a True School Hip-Hop campaign for decades.
A self-proclaimed microphone fiend (like the great Rakim Allah), BoneBreaker Jones first knew in his soul that he had to hold mics after hearing “AJ Scratch” by Kurtis Blow, “30 Days” by Run DMC, and most notably “Criminal Minded” by Boogie Down Productions. From then on, he has heeded the call to speak to The Hip-Hop Nation. He does not want to rule it though. Rather, Jones sees Hip-Hop as his outlet; allowing him to speak his truth, pen fire verses, spit flames into mics, and burn down studios and venues with his flows and shows!
Rapping since middle school, with a few encouragers but no comrades, BoneBreaker Jones truly became fully immersed in the Hip-Hop waters during his time at The University of Alabama, home of the Crimson Tide. There he befriended several young brothers that were also embracing Hip-Hop Culture and trying to find their way as artists. Among those friends was the man who would become Grammy and Dove-nominated producer Sam Peezy. Together, they co-founded the rap act Phasnick, which gained regional success in the mid-1990s with their single “Who Can Rock the Party.” The group dissolved by the early 2000s, but the fire in the belly of BoneBreaker Jones did not, and he has rapped as a solo act since.
Confessions and celebrations, trials and triumphs, prayers and pleasures, proclamations and admissions of fears; that's what you get when you look under the finely polished hood of the rhyme machine that is BoneBreaker Jones. Now, look closer and see that his sound is diverse, drawing from the wells of varying musical and artistic genres. While this results in complex song scheming, his direction in the race is always clear - straight ahead. At the drop of the hat, Jones stands ready and set to tear down a track like a bull (star sign: Taurus). But just when the rap thoroughbreds who took an early lead think they are winning a four-legged foot race, the Jones machine busts out the stalls with horse-powered, high-octane lyricism that leaves the competition smelling his exhaust. Indeed, his brash, impassioned, and fire-fueled wordplay and delivery put him in the top spot on the podium every time, standing head and shoulders above the rest!
In his career thus far, BoneBreaker Jones has gone from beatboxing on school buses to setting stages ablaze on show bills with personal Hip-Hop heroes like Pastor Troy, Luniz, MC Smooth, Mystikal, and Busta Rhymes. Approaching 40 years in, and his love for Hip-Hop has never wavered. In fact, we are about to witness the birth of his latest love child.
Having put out several singles and feature verses over the past two-year buzz-building promo push, Summer 2021 will see the release of the highly anticipated "BBJ 5:13" (EP). And trust, as tight as anyone who has any of his earlier works holds on to them, the coming of this long-awaited Jones baby will be celebrated like none before!
